This is our team visiting the Ravenstein building for a regular cleanup. The Ravenstein screen is a bit of a special bird because of the heavy foot traffic and the limited space where we can install the screen. It used to be located above the hallway, but due to various reasons, the frame it was attached to was no longer secure. The choice was made to lower it more clearly into people’s eye view near the sliding doors. Hence, the cables are not super nice — but we have to make do with what’s available. Once our maintenance check is done, the cables are properly attached and tightened again.

Espressif, the Chinese powerhouse, dominates the world of IoT devices, particularly in office environments. Known among geeks for the wildly popular ESP32 chipset, Espressif has become a staple in creating simple Home Assistant devices like ESPhome and ESPresense. However, beyond the DIY community, Espressif leads the market in professional and enterprise hardware as well. Many internet-connected devices, including EV chargers, rely on Espressif chipsets… And I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of them use the very well documented, super popular, and easily available ESP32 as well.

FlatTurtle partnered with Cobelpro to enhance the connectivity at Pegasus Park, providing high-speed internet, secure WiFi, and vendor equipment integration. The project ensured reliable connectivity, including long-distance WiFi links and coverage in areas with limited cell signals, such as parking spaces. Continuous improvements have made Pegasus Park a highly sought-after business location.

Looks like every time we’re working on the Pegasus rooftops it’s terrible weather. 🌧️
It’s been a while, but we haven’t had the opportunity to talk about it yet — a couple of months ago (as you can see from the nice weather), FlatTurtle undertook a significant upgrade project at Pegasus, replacing End-of-Life (EoL) WiFi access points (AP). This upgrade encompassed all outdoor APs as well as some indoor units, bringing the entire network up to modern standards.

At FlatTurtle, we always push to install WiFi access points inside IT stores and technical rooms. While these areas aren’t publicly facing, many of our friends and colleagues (fellow technicians) spend significant time working there, dealing with servers, racks, HVAC, circuit boards, and other equipment. These rooms are often “deep inside” buildings with little to no cell connectivity. Working and troubleshooting without connectivity can be a real hassle. Providing stable wireless internet in these spaces helps them do their work as best as they can and removes connectivity hurdles.

FlatTurtle resolved a network performance issue at a large site in Ghent using advanced monitoring tools. The issue was caused by a faulty third-party switch sending broken packets, leading to high CPU usage and network disruptions. About a month ago, we embarked on a proof of concept at the Etterbeek NMBS station in collaboration with Stoomlink.com (recently rebranded to Belgian Mobility Company). They handle the content while we manage the hardware and connectivity.
The goal of the project is to give travelers all the needed information at a single glance: you’ll be able to see your transit information when disembarking the train and heading to a bus or tram. Run or walk?
